PROGRAM & FACILITIES

Over the years the Santa Barbara Track & Field camp has brought together high school student athletes to engage in high level training
and leadership building and learning the secrets of top NCAA Div. I coaches. In 2007 over 100 student-athletes from all over California,
Arizona, Idaho, Massachussets, Nevada, New Jersey, Texas, Canada and as far as Taiwan attended the camp. This has allowed a diverse
group of students to learn from each other as well as develop friendships that can last a lifetime.

Distances

The Lydiard system of peak performance is the highlight of this camp. The week will consist of daily morning work and afternoon workout sessions. These practices will not only assist you with understanding form and function but will give you the knowledge of what it takes to train at the highest level. A balance between running on the trails and specific workouts to increase your aerobic and anaerobic capacity will prepare you to maximize your potential for the rest of your career.

Throws

The program will consist of high level technical analysis of the throwing events as well as show you how to become an even more explosive athlete. Improving in throw after throw in the rings, one will leave Santa Barbara with not only higher goals but a way to achieve them. All of the throwing equipment is provided for you! Just bring a training shoe and a throwing shoe.

Sprints

The sprinters and hurdlers will be equipped with knowledge of proper acceleration mechanics,running/hurdling form, strength and conditioning for enhanced speed and power, and the psychological aspects of sprinting and hurdling. With the use of video analysis each athlete will begin to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses and be equipped with skills to improve or enhance both.

**NEW IN 2008** - PARENTS Q&A SESSION WITH THE COACHES: Prior to check-out on Thursday, July 24, all parents are welcome to take part in an informal question and answer session with NCAA Division I coaches. Pick their brains regarding what it takes for students to get into college academically and/or athletically as well as what to expect throughout a students full college career.

The Fun

Enjoy the sun & ocean by day and bonfires by night. Group activities, afternoon treks in and around the UC-Santa Barbara area, games and more will highlight the camp. Meet athletes from all over, compare notes, create new friendships and have a lot of fun!

The Facilities

Nestled inbetween the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains, inside a haven of eucalyptus trees and evergreen, the track & field facilities at UCSB offer the perfect atmosphere for focused and determined training sessions.

For distance runners the miles of trails on the ocean bluff top are ideal for long runs and workouts keeping your legs fresh, while breathing in the ocean air. The track is great for speed training and form work. Running in Santa Barbara alone will be an experience of a lifetime.

The throwing facilities have been called one of the best in the United States by team USA athletes. The combination of three shot put rings, including one of Olympic size and two discus/hammer throw rings allow for many to train at once for maximum benefit to the athlete. As well, state of the art training and weight rooms adjacent to the track make for a great transition from throwing to lifting thereby enhancing the training benefit.

The Institution

Year after year, UCSB has been named one of the top public institutions in the nation. Indeed it boasts five Nobel laureates since 1998. The track & field camp will allow you to get to know the university, preparing you for college and NCAA Division I Athletics.
