Coach's Notes

Sabrina Caplis' awards speak for themselves as she is one of the most talented runners to come through the UCSB program.  As a high school athlete, Caplis showed her talent by running a 2:13 800.  Yet the success continued through college as she qualified for the 1998 national championships in the 800 as a junior.  There she set the school record as well as earned All-American Honors with a time of  2:06.54.  As a senior, the team captain showed surprising versatility by competing in the 1500 only once and running a 4:30.37, the second fastest time in school history at the time (now fourth).  She also ran only one open 400 during the season, but managed to hit a school record in the event clocking a time of 55.76 (now second in school history).  In her final race as a Gaucho, Sabrina won the Big West Conference 800 meter race.
