Coach's notes:
| Ran 3:50.15 in the 1500 which put him number 2 on the UCSB list.
Now number 3...Broke the long-standing school record in the mile with a time of 4:07.58
(second place at the 1993 Fresno Relays) which still stands today.... Became Coach Dolan's
first Big West Conference Champion by rallying from fourth to first in the last lap of the
1993 Big West Conference Championships, winning in a P.R. of 3:50.15... During 1993, was
team captain and U.C.S.B. Male Golden Eagle (Scholar-Athlete of the Year). Damian Capozzola Established himself as a presence early in his UCSB
Distance Career by making the "Top 7" team for the Big West Cross Country
Championships and qualifying for the Big West 1500 meter finals during his freshman year.
Also as a freshman won the "Del Playa Mile" for the first of numerous times with
a (howling) wind-aided time of 4:13, a time which has still not been beaten.
After a steady buildup of many miles on the Dolan Developmental
Program ("DDP"), exploded onto the California regional scene during redshirt
1992 with a top-ten, 25:00 performance at the San Luis Obispo Cross Country Invitational
and a 3:50.45 1500 meters at the Santa Monica Distance Classic (finishing right behind
1992 Big West Champion and eventual National Champion Jamey Harris). |
