***Our New Track is Done! Throws Return FOR 2018!***
"It was a great experience to talk and run with an Olympic level athlete, and hear personal accounts of experiences from college athletes and coaches. My roommates were amazing (we continue to text message/email almost every day) and I appreciate the family spirit that UCSB promotes...I found it very easy to form close relationships with many other people at camp, such as sprinters and throwers as well as distance runners. Thank you for two of the most memorable running weeks in my HS career" - Kelly, 2x Camper
The thrower is a versatile, powerful athlete. An interpretation and understanding of the different aspects that make up this athlete and how to implement this into individual training will take campers through the week. Two workout sessions a day, a morning and a late afternoon one, will keep camp attendees busy in the rings, getting in the much needed personal attention in the shot put and discuss throughout the week. Track & Field expert sessions will analyze techniques, training schedules, weight lifting, core strength and more.
Over the past two seasons, 10 big west titles have been one in the field events, winning the hammer, shot, discus and javelin at the big west championships. This past season Irene Kujore, a former camp counselor, won all three throws (hammer, shot and discus) to become the first athlete in big west history to pull off the triple crown.
Robert Marlow ~ Throws & High Jump Coach
Marlow comes in after a successful student-athlete career at Long Beach State, serving as one of their premier throwers and team captain for the last two years. The former 49er was a four time Big West Conference scorer in the hammer throw, with a career-high podium finish in 2016 at 3rd place. In that same year, he would go on to place 10th at the NCAA West Regional Meet, qualifying for the NCAA Finals in Eugene, Oregon. Marlow would ultimately take 24th at the NCAA Championships, garnering All-American honorable mentions. He is currently number three on the all-time lists for both the hammer throw and the indoor weight throw with marks of 219' 7" and 66' 6" respectively.
Robert's academic credentials include graduating cum laude with two bachelor's degrees from Long Beach State in political science and philosophy. He is also currently in the process of getting a masters in political science and a minor in global politics, already having completed a year's worth of studies while he was still competing at Long Beach State. He also served as student-athlete tutor at the Bickerstaff Academic Center from 2015-2017 and was awarded the Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2016.
The week long Training Camp experience is scheduled to give you a greater love and understanding of the sport. We'll help you leave the training camp with tangible knowledge to help meet short and long-term goals through individual and/or team goal setting sessions as well as learning what it takes to run competitively at the collegiate level. The camp will also focus on building leadership skills on and off the track. An intensive, but incredibly fun training camp makes this the can't miss summer experience.
